In early 2003, the Penn State Behrend campus was designated as an arboretum. An arboretum is defined as a place where an extensive variety of woody plants are cultivated for scientific, educational, and ornamental purposes. We encourage you to visit our campus and see the diversity of plant life on campus. The Biology Program is utilizing the Arboretum to enhance our curriculum.

This web site is dedicated to all plants on campus. Currently, I have focused on the trees with labels, but I have been accumulating all sorts of pictures of the diverse plant life on campus.

This web site will be constantly changing to include more and more plants as time goes by.

Behrend College's campus is home to many different species of plants, native and introduced. On these pages, we present you with a botanical tour of the Penn State Behrend campus. Many of the plants were identified and labeled through the tireless and energetic efforts of Dr. Ed Masteller (Professor Emeritus) (e11@psu.edu). Here are a couple of aerial photos of campus taken by Dr. Masteller, looking towards the north: aerial photo 1, aerial photo 2.

For each tree, a photograph of the entire tree, some leaves, a flower (if available), and the identifying sign (if available) is provided. Click on the thumbnail or the name of any of the plants to get more detailed and higher resolution photos.

So far, the photos represent only a small portion of the diversity of plants on the Penn State Behrend campus. More plants will be added in this collection as time permits.

Some photos will be replaced with larger or better focused images, again, as time permits.
