The Blue Spruce is the lightest colored of all the Spruces. It can reach a height of 25-40 feet with a trunk diameter of 2-3 feet. The branches are horizontal. The bark is grayish brown, rough, scaly, and deeply furrowed on older trees. The needles are 3/4 to 1 1/8 inches long, dull bluish green sharp, curved, 2 1/2 to 4 inches long, tan, with thin flexible scales that are long with jagged brunt tips. They stay on all winter. The blue Spruce can be found through the Rocky Mountains, north to Colorado, and in some parks in the east.
